WATCH: Miss Colorado Explains Why You Are Not ‘Just’ A Nurse

Nurses play one of the most important roles in any patient's life ... but sometimes, even they forget just how critical they are. During the Miss America pageant, Miss Colorado Kelley Johnson delivered a moving monologue about being a nurse that has became a viral hit across the globe.

Skipping the traditional song-and-dance routine, she instead donned her scrubs and spoke openly about a turning point in her career as a nurse during the talent portion.

She shared a story about her relationship with an Alzheimer's patient named Joe who taught her that even though she couldn't cure his disease, she was still a key influence in his healing process. "You have changed my life, because you have cared about me."

"Joe reminded me that day that I'm a lifesaver," she told the crowd. "I'm never going to be just a nurse."

Johnson was named second runner up. And we couldn't be more proud.

  1. i am not just a nurse either. I have had 3 different careers and nursing is the best. I have had so many patients who stand out to me and I could write a book on them but if you are truly a nurse you just give all you have and leave your problems at the door and care for each individual patient the way you would your family. God bless all nurses
