Everyone knows a nurse’s lunch break goes something like this: You take your lunch exactly at noon and relax for a full hour in peace and quiet while you eat a wholesome and delicious homemade meal... Right?
Wrong! Unfortunately, most nurses barely get the chance to scarf down some Doritos on their lunch break—if they get one at all! We were curious about the weird lunch combinations nurses are forced to put together, so we asked our Facebook fans for the strangest lunch they’ve ever eaten at work.

I swallowed my chewing gum….
Chicken broth with a packet of thickener. Thought making it thick would make it seem more like a meal than a drink.
Bag of sour patch kids
Maybe not so weird, but really good. Best hot dog I ever ate was cooked in a rapid steam sterilizer. It was kind of hard to get the napkin off, it stuck to the hot dog.
Croutons that come in little packets on the patient trays and get thrown in a drawer when the patients don’t use them. I might get some pop rocks to add to instant oatmeal; sounds pretty good to me.
Rummaging the fridge and grabbing 3 day old Shepard pie.. Only to eat it out of a emesis basin
8 Ferrero Rocher hazelnut chocolate balls, a treat from a doctor, on a 12-hour night shift! Kept on admitting newborns on Christmas Eve without a decent break!
fried rice out of my used coffee cup with a tongue depressor for a spoon.
Baby formula in coffee …. no milk to be found on unit…
Ramen noodles cooked in a CLEAN, UNUSED emesis basin because there was nothing else! And then eaten using coffee stirrers as chopsticks….I forgot everything!
One can of ensure (vanilla) and Graham crackers.
I think the oatmeal with pop rocks sounds pretty good!
