Three Rivers Midlands is a comprehensive behavioral health facility treating children and adolescents through residential, partial hospitalization and Rehabilitative Behavioral Health Services (RBH). We treat males and females ages 6-21 for a wide spectrum of psychiatric issues, addictive behaviors, and chemical dependency related illnesses. We organize our treatment around helping children and teenagers remove barriers and develop interest in their futures and career aspirations. Our therapeutic model is collaborative; working with families, patients and agencies to maximize therapeutic goals and individual treatment. Three Rivers Midlands currently has Per Diem, Residential Counselor positions available.

PRN staff must work a minimum of Five (5) shifts per month with four (4) of these shifts being on the weekends. Weekend shifts begin Friday Night at 11:00pm and ends Monday morning at 7:30am. Residential staff are required to work three (3) holiday shifts per year. Holidays are defined as New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. One (1) of the holiday shifts must be Thanksgiving or Christmas Day

The responsibilities of the Residential Counselor are as follows:
• Serves as a role model for residents to observe and learn socially effective values, attitudes and behaviors.
• Ensures environment remains safe and normative culture remains positive throughout facility.
• Contributes to formulation, implementation and revision of the resident individual treatment plan (ITP).
• Promotes development of residents' daily living skills through appropriate assignment, instruction, and supervision of tasks.
• Provides appropriate crisis intervention as necessary by anticipating and responding quickly to escalating behaviors, utilizing de-escalation techniques to diffuse the situation, correctly prioritizing safety concerns, following proper restraint technique guidelines, and displaying neutral emotions
• Ensures optimal communication by relaying pertinent resident care information for change of shift report, team logs, communication books and complex staff meetings.


The following are the job requirements for the Residential Counselor position:

Strongly prefer a Bachelors degree in psychology or a related field with a minimum of 1 year of direct care experience working with adolescents and children in an RTF or educational/juvenile setting.
A High School Diploma with a minimum of 1-3 years direct care experience with adolescents and children in an RTF, educational/juvenile setting.

Requires valid SC Drivers License
Requires ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Must possess knowledge of therapeutic relationships, therapeutic processes, adolescent growth and development, limit-setting and behavior management, CPI, BLS and Verbal De escalation
