Position Summary:
Set in the breathtaking landscape of Northern Idaho, Northwest Academy (NWA) is a premier 82-bed therapeutic residential High School that is specifically designed to meet the unique needs of older adolescents 16-18 years of age. Over a one year period faculty assist students as they transition to young adulthood.  NWA creates opportunities for students to pursue maturity and success. 
We currently have flex (on-call, as-needed) Night Counselor openings for mature and dependable role models and mentors for the following overnight responsibilities: 
  • Responsible for supervision of students in a dormitory setting during sleeping hours. 
  • Ensure a physically and emotionally safe sleeping environment in accordance with facility policies and procedures and all licensing and certification requirements.
  • Primarily responsible for maintaining accurate count of students by conducting routine and periodic checks of sleeping quarters.
  • Supervise evening activities and movement of students.
  • Document activities/movements according to operation standards.
  • Resolve conflicts and contain inappropriate and/or unsafe behavior by following behavior management plans, setting and enforcing boundaries and limits, and maintaining adherence to agreements, according to company policies and procedures.
  • Communicate and report occurrences to supervisor and other necessary staff to ensure the safety and general well-being of students and campus.
  • Manages medical and medication needs of students according to operation standards and procedures
  • Responsible for Company and personal Service Excellence standards.

EDUCATION:  High School Diploma or equivalent

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: Current First Aid and CPR and Crisis Intervention Training or the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.  

AGE: Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age per Idaho licensing requirements.

EXPERIENCE: Two years experience working with youth in related field and/or past night shift experience preferred

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS: General knowledge of workplace and office safety

Frequently walk and patrol grounds of 5 to 10 acre area
Frequently climb stairs, nightly to check on dorms
Frequently exposed to outside weather, either cold or hot

HOURS OF WORK:  On call position to fill shifts on an as needed basis.  Ten hour shifts.
