Position Summary:

Laurel Oaks Behavioral Health Center is a 118 bed Acute Psychiatric Hospital and Residential Treatment Center for children and adolescents ages four through eighteen. The 55,000 square foot facility is situated on approximately 10 acres in the southeast corner of Alabama, less than 20 miles from both Florida and Georgia. In addition to the living units, the facility houses our full service cafeteria and New Day Academy; a state-supported year-round K-12th grade school with vocational opportunities. We provide numerous recreational activities including an in-ground swimming pool, game room, playground, basketball courts, and gymnasium.


The multi-disciplinary staff at Laurel Oaks collaborates to ensure that services provided are clinically and medically appropriate and highly coordinated among all treatment disciplines.  Laurel Oaks specializes in the treatment of youth who have multiple challenges and special needs. All children served at Laurel Oaks have a primary psychiatric disorder but most also have co-occurring conditions such as intellectual disabilities, learning disabilities, and/or physical/sexual abuse victimization. 


 Laurel Oaks Behavioral Health Center currently has a Cook PRN position available.  The candidate selected will be responsible for the following:


·   Reviews menus to determine type and quantities of meal, vegetables and   soups

     to be prepared.

·     Plans cooking schedule in conjunction with supervisor or dietitian to ensure that food will

     be ready at specified times.  Confers with supervisor or dietitian regarding modified

     diets, preparation and use of leftovers.

·      Measures and mixes ingredients according to recipes using a variety of kitchen utensils

     and equipment such as blenders, mixers, slicers, and tenderizers to make sauces, soups,

     stews, casseroles, entrees and vegetables.

·     Tests food being cooked by tasting, smelling, and or piercing to determine that it is


·      Relates to and provides for the need of patients relevant to their age and cultural needs.



·         High School graduate or G.E.D. preferred

·         One year experience in quantity food preparation.

·         Must be able to read, write, make simple calculations and follow written and oral


·         Must have some formal on-the-job training in food preparation, cooking, estimating

       quantities of food needs, storage of food supplies, requirements of sanitation and safety

       in handling food and equipment.

·         Must have knowledge of all kitchen equipment, i.e., meat slicer, convection steamer,

       gas ovens and ranges, grills and deep fryers.

·        Must be familiar with standardized recipes and food products.
