Position Summary:

The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) serves as a key member of the facility leadership team. The ADON assists in the 24 hour a day seven day a week responsibility for treatment services provided for inpatient programs. The ADON creates a safe environment for clients, provides direct supervision of clients, empowers clients, and teaches new tools for coping to clients. The ADON promotes client care consistent with the philosophy and objectives of Compass Intervention Center and the ANA Standards of Practice for Psychiatric Mental Health Care. This position assumes on call status (Administrator on Call) on a rotational basis.

Participates with other leaders from administration, nursing administration and medical staff in following goals, strategies and mission. Participates in structures and processes that result in organizational decisions. Participation reflects good judgment, considers the needs of clients, families and community, nursing standards, incorporates research findings and fosters quality client care.

Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others. Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practices.

Ensures both formal and informal systems of communication with all staff that insures thorough and timely distribution of vital facility and departmental information.
Makes sound decisions on behalf of the facility. Responds to the needs necessary to maintain the provision of quality care. Is on call 24/7 for the needs of the Nursing department.
Demonstrates a leadership role in Performance Improvement activities. Develops plans, priorities, assessment tools & improvement activities.  Monitors and evaluates findings. Actions foster organizational collaboration in Performance Improvement activities.
Is visible and available to all shifts ensuring both real and perceived supportive supervision of all staff.
Accountable for the 24-hour delivery of nursing care on units consistent with the mission of the organization. Directly observes nursing care on units, reviews records and reports and communicates with staff and clients to assure the effective delivery of nursing care. Takes action promptly when necessary to maintain quality of nursing care.
Develops and implements a conceptual framework and model for the delivery of nursing care which reflects the facility mission & goals. Develops goals for the delivery of nursing care that are consistent with the mission of the organization. Solicits the participation of other nursing leaders to assure clients with similar nursing care needs receive a similar level of nursing care.
Assist in the development and implementation with revisions to policies and procedures which define how nursing care is assessed, assigned, evaluated and met during admission, diagnosis, planning, treatment and discharge processes.
Collaborates with others in developing processes that promote client rights and organizational ethics. Takes action to assure client care is proper, least restrictive and respectful. Behaviors demonstrate a strong commitment to client rights and code of ethics.

Requirements

Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program.

Experience: Prefer five (5) years experience with a psychiatric mental health population, three (3) previous management experience.

Licensure: Licensure and registration by the TN Board of Nurse Examiners as a Registered Nurse, American Nursing Association Psychiatric Mental Health Certificate preferred.

Knowledge: General and psychiatric nursing principles, working concepts and theory, leadership skills, age specific growth and development, crisis and behavior management.

Supervision Exercised:  House Supervisor, Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, Unit Supervisor
