Position Summary:

We are currently seeking an Assessment & Referral Registered Nurse to join our talented and caring team!

The Registered Nurse:

  • Demonstrates leadership in organizing the delivery of patient care in an acute psychiatric setting for patients experiencing a wide range of psychiatric conditions.
  • Executes nursing procedures according to policy, utilizing the nursing process.
  • Provides telephonic and in-person risk assessment and crisis intervention for new patients.
  • Assists the accepting physician by providing face-to-face clinical assessments, including the history of presenting illness, family dynamics and supporting psychosocial information.
  • Is the initial contact for referral sources and potential patients.
  • Coordinates the referral and intake process of new patients to the hospital to include insurance pre-certification as appropriate.
  • Documents pertinent information accurately, timely and legibly.
  • Attends mandatory in-services and/or completes required web-based training.
  • Demonstrates respect and tolerance for all patients without regard to age, gender, race, national origin, disability status, religion and/or lifestyle choice (s).
  • Assumes responsibility for professional development and ongoing education.
  • Maintains a professional appearance and attitude.
  • Serve actively and constructively as a member of the multi-disciplinary treatment team, supporting the hospital philosophy of nursing care; to ensure the safety and well-being of every patient.

Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

Training and Experience:  Experience in behavioral health field desirable, but not required.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations: Must demonstrate current licensure with the North Carolina Board of Nursing (or compact state).

Knowledge/Skills Required: Demonstrate accurate physical, mental, emotional and spiritual assessment skills and ability to clearly communicate findings both verbally and in writing. Demonstrate theoretical and practical knowledge of Standards of Nursing Practice and Care in all aspects of care provided. Demonstrate knowledge and support of the psychotherapeutic based treatment model and ability to utilize knowledge in patient care and therapeutic milieu. Able to communicate effectively in English through written and verbal means.  Ability to plan and provide individualized nursing care.  Ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluation of situations and/or making nursing decisions.  Ability to remain calm in crisis situations and utilize approved response methods.

Physical Demands:  Work is physically and mentally demanding.  Must be able to lift, push and pull 25+ pounds.  Must be able to participate in physical restraints.  Must be able to remain calm and professional in crisis situations.
