The primary responsibilities of the Appeals Specialist are the resolution of all appeals relating to technical issues identified during the billing of claims and the follow up on the clincial appeals performed by the facilities.

Essential Job Duties
1. Responsible for appeals relating to technical and clinical issues identified during the billing of claims
2. Works with HIM and facility clinicians to correct deficiencies in a timely manner
3. Identify problem accounts and trends. Escalate as appropriate.
4. Works with insurance companies to secure payment on account balances outstanding
5. Properly documents the patient account with actions taken to resolve issue.
6. Meet productivity standards and departmental goals and objectives.
7. Other duties as assigned.

 
Requirements

 

The following are the job requirements for the Appeals Specialist Position:

1. The qualified candidate for this position must have the ability to work effectively with payers, patients, clinicians, HIM and other employees.
2. Ability to read and interpret medical records is required.
3 Experience working in healthcare and technical denials is required.
4. Providing service consistently exceeding expectations to both internal and external customers is a must.
5. Any candidate must have proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and others as required.
6. Must have the ability to prioritize needs and manage resources.
7. Minimum of one year of appeals experience is preferred.
8. Multi hospital business office experience preferred.
