Position Summary:
Set in the breathtaking landscape of Northern Idaho, Northwest Academy (NWA) is a premier 82-bed therapeutic residential High School that is specifically designed to meet the unique needs of older adolescents 16-18 years of age. Over a one year period faculty assist students as they transition to young adulthood.  NWA creates opportunities for students to pursue maturity and success. 
To assist with the facilities growth, Northwest Academy (NWA) currently has an opening for an Adventure Coordinator.  The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
·         Coordinate and lead recreational, cultural and adventure activities for students & their families
·         Responsible for directing and facilitating safe and effective recreational and adventure activities for students. 
·         Coordinate, plan, prepare, and facilitate adventure activities.
·         Instruct and train technical and leadership skills needed by participants and staff for the designated adventure activity.
·         Support and manage other team members in the setting of limits for student behavior in accordance with behavior management policies.
·         Directly supervise participants and staff during on and off-campus adventure activities.
·         Provide crisis intervention as needed. 
·         Facilitate pre and post activity briefings.
·         Assist in goal setting and the establishment of plans to meet the therapeutic needs of each participant. 
·         Facilitate group processing, staff meetings and inter-disciplinary team communication.
·          Responsible for maintaining necessary certifications and training as applicable to IES policies and procedures.

Requirements
·         Bachelor’s degree required in Outdoor Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation, Outdoor Experiential Education or related field      preferred. Any other combination of training and experience that results in the required knowledge, abilities and skills.
·         Current Wilderness First Responder (WFR) or EMT
·         Crisis Prevention (CPI) certification
·         Qualify for Idaho Outfitter Guide License
·         Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age per Idaho licensing requirements
·         Minimum of 300 days of field experience within the outdoor adventure industry in progressively responsible positions; minimum 45 field days as lead guide. 
·         Minimum two years working with adolescent populations.
·         While performing the functions of this job, the employee will regularly be required to participate in various physical activities with the students. 
·         The employee will also be regularly required to walk on uneven grounds including but not limited to: rough, steep grades under muddy, snowy or icy conditions. 
·         The employee frequently is required to use fingers and hands to handle or feel. 
·         The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and carry on their back at least 50 pounds for extended periods of time.
·          Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
WORK LOCATION:
Candidate will work out of the Northwest Academy facility in Naples, Idaho.  Naples is located approximately 30 miles north of Sandpoint, Idaho.  Sandpoint was recently voted one of the five best small towns in America. (USAToday/RandMcNally)
