Position Summary:

The RN staff nurse assumes the primary responsibility for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care for assigned patients.  The RN plans and sets goals which demonstrate a holistic approach to patients and families and assumes leadership responsibilities at the unit level and demonstrates a mastery of clinical skills related to patients mental health and physical health needs.

Essential functions include, but are not limited to:  Developing and maintaining a therapeutic relationship throughout the health care continuum; Facilitating the patient and family's right to receive safe, quality, and cost effective care; Maintaining and protecting confidentiality regarding all aspects of patient care and information; Demonstrating a commitment to meeting the learning needs of patients and families; Utilizing appropriate resources to meet those needs and achieve positive patient outcomes; Assisting in creating an environment that promotes educational growth opportunities for nursing peers and colleagues; Demonstrating the use of nursing processes as a problem-solving model; Demonstrating respect and understanding for peers and other clinical disciplines and participating as an effective member of the patient care team to formulate an integrated approach to care; Demonstrating leadership behaviors and is committed to development of self and others.

BONUS!!  -  $1,500 after 90 days of successful employment, $1,500 after 9 months of successful employment and $2,000 after 2 years of successful employment.


Must have a valid West Virginia RN license with one year nursing experience.  Prefer 6 months in a mental health setting.

Required Knowledge and Skills:  Good communication skills and computer skills; Basic experience with office equipment; Ability to effectively present information in one-ton-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the hospital; Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to interact with patients with varying levels of cognitive functions; Must possess the ability and willingness to work professionally with other personnel, patients, family members and guests; Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, emotionally upset, varying age population, and, at times, hostile people within the hospital; Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with patients, personnel, and support agencies.
