Compass Intervention Center has been a provider of behavioral health and substance abuse treatment in the Memphis and Mid-South region since 1996.  Compass is a 108-bed intensive residential treatment program designed to address general psychiatric, substance abuse, and dual diagnosis disorders.  Compass provides services for male and female children and adolescents ages 6 to 17.  Clients attend therapeutic program activities and school separated by 3 major age groups and diagnosis needs.  Compass is a medical model program with 24-hour nursing in a safe, therapeutic, and hardware secure environment.  Our staff is dedicated to providing age specific programs to address the needs of children, pre-adolescents, and adolescents with a wide variety of psychiatric illnesses, behavioral problems, and substance abuse issues.  Compass is accredited by The Joint Commission and licensed by the State of Tennessee.

Registered Nurse Responsibilities:


The Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care on a designated unit in a manner consistent with the philosophy and objectives of Compass Intervention Center and the ANA Standards of Practice for Psychiatric Mental Health Care.  The Registered Nurse creates a safe environment for clients, provides direct supervision of clients, empowers clients, and teaches new tools for coping to clients. The Registered nurse prescribes, coordinates and delegates nursing care utilizing the nursing process that is integrated into the multidisciplinary treatment team plan of care. The Registered nurse is accountable for assigned nursing care activities on a shift basis and is responsible for promoting and enhancing professional nursing practice on the unit. The Registered Nurse may also assume Charge Nurse responsibilities as required.


Job Requirements:

The following are requirements for the Registered Nurse position:

·         Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program.  BSN preferred.

·         Licensure and registration by the Tennessee Board of Nurse Examiners as a registered nurse.

·         One-year experience working with the child and adolescent psychiatric patient population highly preferred.

·         Prior knowledge/experience with the following is preferred:

o        Crisis management and/or intervention with aggressive behaviors

o        Limit setting and behavior management

o        Psychiatric group processes and therapeutic relationship processes
